How to Properly set up Google Analytics to see Better Results
As we have mentioned in the previous article, Google Analytics provides us with useful statistics on the traffic of our website or mobile application.
But in order to get the most representative statistics, some settings should be made in our account.
It is Important to Understand the Structure of a Google Analytics Account:
Account: At least one account is required to access google analytics. The relationship between account and properties can be 1-1 or 1-many properties.
Property: Can be a website, mobile app or device. Each property has its own unique ID.
Views: This is the area to access google analytics reports for each property.
There Should be at Least 3 Views on Each Property as Follows:
default view: it is the default view that exists in every property of google analytics. For security reasons no changes should be made to this View.
master view: in this view the data filters will be added. For example, the “filtering” of internal ips on our site or display of visits to our site from specific countries, etc.
test view: this is where filters should be tested before being imported into the master view.
As long as we have Correctly Configured our Google Analytics Account, we Apply the Following Filters:
IP exclusion filter
With this specific filter we can exclude from visits to our website, those coming from specific ip addresses. Certainly, we should exclude our own ip or that of our relatives.
Filter to display visits from a specific Country
Let’s assume that our site is addressed only to the Greek territory, with this filter all visits originating from other countries are excluded. Thus, the statistics we will receive from google analytics will only be for users from Greece.
